In general the CC is quite reliable as it's based on proven VW parts and engines. It's not perfect though, so do take the time to inspect any example you're considering buying and try to find one with a long and detailed service history. That would be easier with an Irish-market car of course.

Likewise, we don't think there would be much saving bringing a car in from the UK. If you're going for the TDI model, the NOx levy alone could be very high, never mind the VRT. I'd suggest searching for a good example within Ireland first and then do the sums to compare it with a similar car in the UK.
