In general, the Clio is a dependable car, but you need to set your expectations at a reasonable level for any vehicle that is now well over 15 years old. Check that the expensive things (engine, gearbox, etc) work properly and that there are no strange noises when you take the car for a test drive. Look for evidence of servicing as well. We'd advise you to try to experience a number of the same model from various sellers so you get a feel for which is a good one, too.
