Thinking of importing a Lexus...

I am thinking to import a 2017 Lexus IS300h from Japan. Just wondering how much the VRT is going to be. Considering its a 2.5L Hybrid, will it be any cheaper. And also are these cars economical? My current bmw 1series 2015 gives me 12KM per Litre which is not great.

Our answer:

Hi Sai,

VRT depends on the CO2 rating and the Open Market Selling Price (OMSP) that Revenue believes a car to be worth in Ireland. Note that is not related to how much you actually paid for the car.

We believe that car emitted 107g/km, which puts it into Band 8 for VRT at a rate of 13.5 per cent.

Depending on the specification, Revenue could suggest the car is worth up to €25,000, which would result in an estimated VRT bill of €3,375.

Depending on how you drive it, we'd expect the Lexus to be a little more economical than the BMW you've described.
