Thinking of importing a Land Cruiser...

Hi ,thinking of bring in a 2010 TOYOTA LAND CRUISER PRADO TX, from japan, model code CBA-TRJ150W, 2690cc petrol ,45thousand km on the clock. Any idea what the VRT is ???as not on revenue ( where can i find this out???) and what the road tax would be ,thanks Andy

Our answer:

Hi Andrew,

You'll have to do some guesswork here as that model was never sold in Ireland with that engine. Revenue's VRT calculation is based on the Open Market Sale Price (OMSP), which is the price it believes the car is worth on the Irish market. You'll have to take a stab at that value yourself if the car is not on the calculator.

It's safe to say it will attract the highest rate of VRT if it is a passenger vehicle - 41 per cent - so if Revenue suggests the OMSP is €20,000, then your VRT bill would be €8,200. That's only an example, so make your own call on how much the car could be valued at.

Motor tax would be according to the CO2 emissions (assuming this is a passenger vehicle, not a commercial), and you can be sure that car will be in the top band again, costing €2,400 per year.
