Thinking of changing to petrol Qashqai...

We’re thinking of changing from 09 Qashqai diesel to a petrol Qashqai. I don’t do the mileage to need a diesel, I only do local driving, go down the country couple times a year. With a trade in we can get 151 petrol SV spec Qashqai, €13500 with 3 year warranty. I like the Qashqai as suv but just wondering is it a good car to buy?

Our answer:

Hi Lorraine,

I think you’re doing exactly the right thing, moving to a petrol Qashqai if you’re only covering low mileage. The 2014-onward Qashqai comes with an excellent 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine, is surprisingly frugal and has quite low emissions. That said, you will miss the punch of the diesel on longer journeys, but even then the petrol version's performance is just fine, and the interior quality and comfort are a significant step up from the older Qashqai. Depending on your own car’s service history and condition, it should be worth in the region of €5-6,000 so I’d say with a bit of shopping around that should put you in a 151-reg version for €13,500. Obviously we can’t predict what a specific dealer will offer you against a specific car, but it should all add up OK.
