Thinking of buying this Focus...

Thinking of buying a 2011 diesel 1.6 Ford Focus hatchback,, mileage 141. does it have a timing belt or chain and what should be replaced at this mileage or to look for when viewing. Thanks

Our answer:

Hi Leonard,

That engine has a timing belt, which should be changed at least every 140,000km or 10 years, whichever comes first.

Other than that, pay close attention to the operation of the clutch and gearbox, as they are known weak points. If anything is even slightly off about either, you need to consider the possibility that the gearbox will have to come off for repairs.
