We think the Ateca is the class-leader in its particular segment. It drives nicely, it’s well packaged and it looks good, with the only black mark on it being a slightly dull interior. The Skoda Karoq is a strong alternative, maybe with a little more rear legroom, but it doesn’t drive as sweetly and the interior is no more exciting. Both these two are newer and, in our opinion, superior products to the Mk2 Qashqai, which has been around in its current form since 2014.
