Thinking of buying a used X5...

Hi, I’m thinking about buying a 2014/2015 BMW X5 2 L version. For someone doing below 10k miles pa is it practical? I’ve never driven diesel before only petrol to date. Any other advice or things to watch out for would be appreciated, my budget is approx 35000K tks

Our answer:

Hi Kieran,

That era of BMW X5 is actually a very reliable machine, the most common faults with it mainly being of the electrical variety – specifically, relating to phone connectivity, the DAB radio and the satnav system, which can operate slowly despite being up to date on software etc. However, this isn’t common and it’s a fine vehicle, with one proviso: you're doing very low mileage to buy a diesel car. Of course, we guess the sDrive25d is less money on the used market than one of the petrol X5s of the same era, but note that ‘s’ in the model badging – the 2.0-litre diesel X5 was not all-wheel drive, it only drove the rear wheels. If you’re buying the X5 because you want traction security in winter, you’re going to have to find an xDrive model.
