Thinking of buying a diesel in the North...

Hi I am thinking of buying a 22 reg diesel car in Northern Ireland. The car is originally a northern Irish registered, the garage has applied for a v5 as there was a plate change and v5 will be coming back in garages name. Would vat and customs duty need to be paid on this car to import to Southern Ireland.

Our answer:

Hi Sean,

It is our understanding that yes, VAT and import/customs duty would be payable on that car.
