Hi im thinking about buying a 2015 Insignia and have heard there can be alot of engine problems with them just wondering can you help me
Hi Fiona,
Generally speaking, the Insignia is a pretty solid car, and as long as you buy one with a full service history you should be fine. There are a couple of specific things to keep an eye on — there can be issues with the diesel particulate filter, or DPF, which can clog up if the car is only driven at low speed on short journeys. You can, potentially, clear out and get a DPF going again with a good, long run on the motorway, but if that doesn't work they’re expensive to replace. Turbo issues on the diesel engines are not uncommon, either, so check for sluggish or slow acceleration — power should be coming on strong from about 1,500rpm onwards. Finally, the ‘dual mass’ flywheels can often give trouble, and again are expensive to fix. They tend to go at around 120,000km and you’ll know it by a strong vibration felt through the car when the engine is idling with the gear stick in neutral.
