Thinking of buying 2012 opel insignia 1.6l petrol turbo. Any advice, does turbo go or oil pump pack up?
Hi John,
We’ve heard no major reported issues with that 1.6-litre turbo, certainly not concerning the turbo itself, or the oil pump, but that could be down to the fact that not a huge number were sold, so it can be hard to get accurate data. That 1.6-litre turbo engine was known, in the Astra and OPC model of the Corsa, for developing piston-burning issues, especially on the No.4 piston, but the later addition of oil cooling jets under the pistons seemed to fix that. Beyond that, apparently the top-end bearings are prone to wear, but you’d have to take the engine apart to check those. If the car has a full and complete service history, it should be fine.
