The new import rules are confusing...
I am considering importing a car from the UK and am trying to calculate the total cost including VRT and VAT but am finding the overall situation very confusing. Are you aware of any web calculation tool or website that I can use to give me some insight into the total cost? Also, do you know if Revenue treats a car purchase from a private UK citizen any differently to a purchase from a dealer? Thanks.

Agreed, the new rules are fiendishly complicated. There does not appear to be any simple online tool to help with the calculations, unfortunately. We can provide that service on here if you submit another question with lots of details about the car in question. And no, it makes no difference whether the car is being bought from a private citizen or a dealer.
