Have heard a lot of fantastic reports about the Audi A6 Bitdi, over 300 hp, with quattro. Seemingly the torque is epic. They are a reality rare beast especially in estate model. I am wondering if there are any problems I should look out for, and in believe it doesn't have a standard gearbox, so was wondering if this was a good thing or not ? Also the claimed mpg is mid 40's which is hard to believe! I was thinking of heading to UK now that' the rate has picked up, but looks like a 12 or 13 model would set me back at least 10k? Any tips would be appreciated
Hi Rob,
Well, first off I think you'd be lucky to find one for €10k. The 2012-2013 models we've seen for sale in the UK have all been priced at £25k+.
On the reliability front there aren't any horror stories circulating, but it's worth bearing in mind that that kind of torque and power do put extra strain on components, so at the very least you need to make sure the car has a full Audi service history.
You're right in that it uses a different auto gearbox. Instead of Audi's own dual-clutch S tronic transmission it uses an eight-speed ZF automatic. No harm - it's a terrific gearbox.
Finally, 40mpg? It's certainly do-able, but mid-30s is a more realistic average.
