Well, there’s no new model of Astra saloon (at least not yet), but there are a few other mid-range four-doors around that are worth looking at, if you fancied something similar again. There’s the Toyota Corolla (endlessly reliable, comfortable and smooth), the Volkswagen Jetta (like the Corolla, but with a slightly nicer interior), the Skoda Octavia (like the Jetta but with a bigger boot and it’s actually a hatchback) or the Mazda3 Fastback (which is seriously good to drive and has an excellent 1.5-litre diesel engine). Of that selection, it’s the Mazda thatwould be my personal choice, but take a few test drives and see what you think.
