I am in the process of importing XXXXXX , nx300h lexus F sport hybrid. I was shocked to discover it seems to have co2 173 g per km and attracts vrt 10k+. However roadtax in ireland is unclear , could it be €750. How can it be classified as hybrid? I thought I was buying a green car. This high road tax makes future trade in value low. When did lexus increase co2, not well advertised. I have a neighbour with nx 2020 tax €270 which is what I would expect, same car What's green?
Hi Tom,
The NX used to have a CO2 value of 121g/km on the old 'NEDC' system of measurement, but since the more accurate system came in, called WLTP, its rating has been revised and that's the value used to calculate VRT on importation and the annual motor tax. With a WLTP CO2 rating of 173g/km on importation, it fits into the 171-190g/km band introduced in January this year, so the annual tax rate is €600.
