Well, with three kids you need something that’s broad across the back seat (or better still, has seven seats) and has a decent boot, so the Tiguan is looking like a good bet. That said, it’s worth remembering that you can have a SEAT Ateca, which is mechanically identical to the Tiguan, and just as roomy, for less money and that the new Skoda Kodiaq, also identical under the skin to the Tiguan, can be had with seven seats (albeit with a petrol 1.4 turbo engine) for less than €30k. It’s also worth remembering that a good old estate car is probably, in many ways, a better option for most families, as they’re roomier in the boot than most SUVs and cheaper to buy. Have a look at a Golf Estate, a Honda Civic Tourer, or even a Kia Optima Sportwagon before you decide.
