Still say petrol for a Focus?

Still say petrol for a Focus?

You have quoted a difference of 1500/2000 euro difference between a petrol and diesel car. The fact is if you are buying a ford focus there is only about 50 euro difference. Based on that what is your advice. Petrol or Diesel.?

Our answer:

Hi Vincent,

That is true specifically for the 1.0 Ecoboost 100hp Style and 1.5 TDCi 95hp models of the Focus, but these are the most basic versions of the Focus available and not truly representative of what people actually buy. Look further up the price list and you’ll see a €1,000 price gap between the 125hp 1.0-litre Ecoboost and the 120hp 1.5 TDCi in ST-Line trim, and a similar gap between the two engines in Titanium trim. There’s also the point that the advice to buy petrol over diesel relates to issues such as the reliability of diesel exhaust filters if you’re only covering low mileage, so the calculation isn’t just about the cost of fuel versus the cost of the car.
