Skoda hatch or estate?

Skoda hatch or estate?

Hi Shane, Would really appreciate any advice you could give me. I'm thinking of buying EITHER a Skoda Octavia 1.2 TSI DSG (automatic) (hatchback) 2013 (131) 160-180,000km OR a Skoda Octavia Estate 1.6 TDI CR SE DSG 2012 141,000 km. Selling for same price through independent dealers. Rural driving and motorway/urban mix but I don't expect to do heavy mileage. Any advice on which is the best suited engine for car size (hatchback vs. estate) and best drive?

Our answer:

Hi Alison,

Generally speaking we’d always advise going for the estate, as there is usually no penalty in running costs (although depreciation may be a touch steeper) and you get far more practicality and usefulness into the bargain. Both versions of the Octavia are excellent, but if you’re doing low mileage then really it just doesn’t make sense for you to buy a diesel. That 1.2 TSI engine is economical anyway, and really sweet to drive, so all things considered, go for that one.
