Should we change our car?

Hi. We have 2010 1.6d blue motion vw Golf Plus CL, 124k km. Full VW history and TB done @ 122k. Used as a 2nd car. Much less mileage now due to change in circumstances. Thinking of updating. Any suggestions for second family car of similar size around 2014 to 2016. Thinking petrol better option as now doing 8 to 10 thousand km to per year. Thinking of just driving it till it "dies" due to lowish garage trade in offers. Advice appreciated please. Thanks

Hi Brian,

The thing is that you're almost always better off keeping your car and keeping it serviced (as you seem to have done already) than changing it. The cost of upkeep etc is almost always less than the cost of change, so with the whole 'keeping it until it dies' approach, I'd say your best bet is to keep the Golf Plus and just give it an occasional long run to keep the exhaust filter clear. Other options would be the Toyota Verso, Ford C-Max or Citroen C4 Picasso in five-seat format, but you're going to struggle to find anything fuelled by petrol.
