hi I am looking at buying a 2012 ford fiesta from a reputable dealer, it has 57500 km on the clock, they have said that they will fit a new timing belt and water pump before I collect it, I was just wondering if this should raise an alarm, 57500 km ( 36000 miles ) should I be alarmed ?
Hi Colin,
You've not told us the engine, so we'll assume it's the popular 1.25-litre petrol one. It doesn't need its belt changed until either it has done 160,000km or it's eight years old, so it's still a little early for the belt change, but I reckon the dealer is just sweetening the deal and reassuring you. It's normal to change the water pump at the same time as the timing belt. I would not be worried about that in the least.
