Should my SEAT's water pump be replaced?

Hi, I am thinking of buying a 2010 1.2 Seat Ibiza. The garage told me they replaced the timing chain - but didn't replace the water pump. Is that safe? or is replacing both at the same time advisable?

Our answer:

Hi Andrew,

I am surprised it wasn't done, as it is usually done when a timing belt or chain is replaced (a huge amount of the stripping work to access the water pump is done in that process already, you see), but that isn't to say it has to be done at that time. I don't see any safety issue with it.
