I have a 09 ford focus diesel worth about 5,000- 6,000 thousand, Ineed to spend around 3,000 on it inbthe next few months. Am I as well off trading it in for a newer car.
Hi Jamie,
Not necessarily. Yes, you could get a decent trade in, but against a new Focus (for instance) you’re still going to be having to finance between €14,000 and €20,000 depending on which model you go for. That’s a big chunk of money, even on a good PCP with low monthly repayments. It’s certainly a lot more than €3,000 for instance. If you fancy having a new car, then by all means go ahead and there may be some savings to make in terms of motor tax and fuel costs (although these will be in the region of hundreds, not thousands a year), but in terms of actually keeping to a minimum spend, get the work done and keep the old car going.
