I have owned a diesel car for many years, howver I am now down to 10-12000 MILES a year. Is it a worthwhile consideration to swich from AUDI/BMW dieel to petrol . The price per litre of petrol is approx 10c more expensive generally and both of the car mentioned have a 15 MPG approx reducion in the petrol versions. In your opinion can a case be made for the petrol car?
Hi Jim,
You’re kind of still at the point where we’d recommend diesel power. We’d normally say 20,000km annually, which works out as 12,500 miles per annum, is the cut-off point where petrol no longer makes sense. You’re kind of just underneath that, but you’d need the petrol Audi or BMW you’re looking at to be considerably cheaper than an equivalent diesel to make up for your increased fuel costs going forward.
