Hi I’m just wondering is there a future for diesel or is it on the way out. I cover 80+ km a day 6 days mostly motorways and drive petrol. Would I be wise to change or stay petrol. Also can an engine be to small for a car I was told mine is to small for the size of car and that’s how it’s using so much petrol. I drive a golf with 1litre tsi petrol engine. Regards andrew
Hi Andrew,
Your circa 24,000km a year is on the cusp of choosing between petrol and diesel. A diesel car would certainly save you fuel on the kind of daily journey you describe. The 1.0-litre Golf engine is great, but better suited to lower average speeds and urban use than plodding along on the motorway. In your position, I'd consider going diesel for sure. They still make for the best option in long distance driving if economy is your priority. And they will do for some time to come, in my opinion, despite headlines to the contrary.
