Should I stick with Kia for a Sportage?

I'm thinking of trading in my 2011 Kia Ceed Sportswagon for a Sportage, maybe a 151 or 161. Do you recommend sticking with a Kia dealer when it comes to trading in or will I get the same trade in value with another dealer? I'm also looking at a Hyundai Tucson or Nissan Qashqai. What kind of trade in price could I expect for the Ceed? It has 120k km approx.

Our answer:

Hi Mary,

Well, let’s start with the value, for which your Cee’d Sportswagon is likely to be worth between €5,000 and €6,000; but you’ll get less than this for a trade-in, probably more like €3,000 to €4,000. In terms of where you get your Sportage from, then you’ll get more choice of used examples at a Kia dealership and you might be able to negotiate a better deal by citing your customer loyalty, but if you see the right car on another manufacturer’s forecourt or at a third-party sales garage, then there’s no need to go to Kia specifically. The Tucson and Qashqai are pretty much the same as the Sportage, with only minor differences between them, so if you’ve got your heart set on the Kia, stick with it.
