Should I steer clear of the Volvo S40?
Looking at a 2007 volvo s40 for my son but have been advised that that and later years had turbo and other problems. Dealer wants €7000. 100,000km on the clock. Should i steer clear of this car

No, don’t steer clear of it. Is it the 1.6-litre diesel? If so, then it all comes down to service history. If the car has been properly serviced, preferably by a main Volvo dealer, and has always had a refill of high-grade oil at those services, then it should be fine. The 1.6 diesel does occasionally develop turbo and exhaust gas recirculation value trouble, but it all comes down to maintenance really.
