It will always be a worry with the N47 engine and I'm afraid there's no early warning of any problems nor any easy fix. Keeping the car regularly serviced will help, but you'll have to insist on having the chain inspected every time as it's at the back of the engine and hard to get at so expect to pay more for that inspection.

Should you sell it? Well, it seems a bit unfair to damn an otherwise excellent car because of an occasional, if serious, fault, but there's no getting away from the fact that there are more reliable models out there...
