I cannot get fifth gear in my 2006 Nissan Primera, seemingly a common problem. Is it worth a chance to fit a second hand gearbox at 230,000k? Will the gearbox just pack up now?
Hi Eileen,
Your car has done a lot of mileage already, but if the rest of it feels up to plenty more then it may well be worth investing in another gearbox. If at all possible, try to find out the mileage of the car the second-hand gearbox has come out of, as it's no point fitting one that has done high mileage again. Alternatively, consider going to a gearbox expert to have your current transmission reconditioned.
