Should I now change to petrol?

I have an annual mileage of 10000 miles and drive a diesel. Should i change to a petrol now that my mileage is much lower having retired last year . In any event what is the best choice of petrol car from BMW, Audi and Mercedes or other premium brand for fuel economy

Our answer:

Hi Jim,

Definitely look at petrols now you’re retired, as the annual mileage you’ll be covering means a diesel probably won't make sense. All of Audi, BMW, Jaguar and Mercedes do 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engines, which will be the best on fuel you’re going to get from conventional power, but also look out for plug-in hybrid versions (except with Jaguar, which doesn’t offer this on its saloon cars yet) and Lexus’ take on hybrid power, too. This brings Volvo into the fray – check out the company’s T3, T4, T5, T6 and T8-badged products, the last of these being a plug-in hybrid that’s available in the S60, S90, XC60 and XC90 models.
