Assuming you don't have the 1.6 FSI model (as that had a timing chain), Volkswagen recommends checking the timing belt at 90,000km and then every 30,000 kilometres.

If you're thinking of selling the car, we'd suggest it's best not getting the belt done unless the buyer specifically requests it, as it's not a cheap job to do.
