Hello there was looking to get another car, we have a Citroen Xsara Picasso 1.6L petrol and was looking up the Puegeot 5008 or Grand Picasso which are mostly 1.6L Diesel engines, we don't travel far so we heard that a diesel engine is only suitable for long distances? Is this true or is their a way to keep the engine clean like take it out once a week on a really good spin? Are the Puegeot 5008's reliable because we would be looking at years 2012-2015 really. Thanks Thanks.
Hi Mark,
In that era, vehicles like the 5008 or Grand Picasso were almost all sold as diesels here in Ireland; it’s only from 2016-onwards that the shift back to petrol has gathered any momentum. You therefore don’t have much of a choice but you’ve hit on the right solution – if you take the vehicle on the motorway once a week and let it run until it is well up to optimum operating temperature, you should have no problems with it. Both the 5008 and Grand Picasso from that period are pretty solid cars, but make sure you get one with the best service history record you possibly can.
