Should I email my registration cert?

Should I email my registration cert?

Hi - I have advertised my car with your web site and have received a response from what seems like a prospective buyer. However, he has requested that I email him a copy of the car registration certificate so that he can check it out with the likes of the AA or similar. Can you advise if this is a normal request as it seems somewhat suspicious to me? I would be grateful for your thoughts on this request.

Kind regards, David McGovern

Our answer:

Hi David,

To be honest, that's a little odd. The buyer doesn't need to see your registration document until he actually comes to see the car. If they want to 'check it out with the AA' then that's fine but you don't need the reg doc to book a vehicle inspection. Likewise you don't need it to carry out a car history check - you just need the registration.

Why not try replying by saying that you don't feel comfortable emailing documents out, but that you're happy to have the AA come and inspect the car and more than happy to show him or her all the documents and history if they come to inspect the car themselves.
