Is it best to change to diesel car would I save in the long run ,is a skoda Fabio hard on petrol 1.0 litre not sure what to change to want to upgrade advice would be a help thanks
Hi Carolann,
The general rule of thumb is that if you drive thousands of kilometres a year – say 20,000km or more – and most of your distance is on a motorway or fast major route, then a diesel car is worth getting. Otherwise, stick to petrol, especially if you’re an urban commuter, as the economy differences in such situations are negligible and petrol cars are cheaper to buy. The Skoda Fabia with the 1.0 MPI engine is fine on fuel, as it’s a frugal little car, and driven gently – which you will do, as it’s not massively powerful – it should return anything around 50mpg, which is very impressive.
