Should I change my Mondeo's belt?

Should I change my Mondeo's belt?

Hi Guys I have just bought a 2000 Ford Mondeo Ghia with only 85,000 miles on it. I am fairly sure that this mileage is genuine and the car has been laid up for a while as it still has a 2014 roadfund license on the windscreen! It is a 2 litre petrol automatic. Unfortunately I don’t have the service history Questions:- Will this have a timing belt or a timing chain on it. What is the recommended service interval for the timing belt/chain? I just don’t know if it has ever been replaced. Many thanks for your help.

Our answer:

Hi John,

The Mondeo changed model in 2000, but I'm assuming it's the older one. The recommended change interval is 150,000km or 10 years (whichever comes first). Regardless of that, we'd highly recommend the owner of any car that has been laid up for as long as yours to change the belt, and give the rest of the engine a thorough service.
