If a mechanic physically inspected the belt and is suggesting it needs to be replaced, then I'd follow that advice (or get a second opinion if you have any doubts).
You've not told us which engine your Fabia has, and I'm assuming it's a 2017 model based on what you said. The common 1.0-litre and 1.2-litre engines' belts should be changed at least every five years, regardless of mileage, while the 1.4 TDI's must be changed at least every 210,000km regardless of time.
