It depends on how and where you drive. If your life is spent criss-crossing the country, on motorways, and racking up more than 20-25,000km per year, then diesel is still a good option (but a good hybrid is also worth considering). If you drive mostly in town, cover short distances and have a low annual mileage, then go with petrol.
