Should I be suspicious of incorrect keys?

a car im looking at has a non central locking seat key,and a central locking key thats working.but it has a volkswagen logo, the mileage is 55,000,but should i be suspicious?

Our answer:

Hi Diarmuid,

Maybe not suspicious but certainly a bit wary. Volkswagen and SEAT are, of course, part of the same group and the parts are interchangeable across the two brands, so it could just be that the previous owner found it cheaper to get a Volkswagen key reprogrammed to replace a lost SEAT one. Ask why, and ask to see receipts to back up any answers, and if it still sounds a bit dodgy, walk away — plenty more cars out there.
