Well, if you go for the most popular 218d model, then you’ll be looking at an annual motor tax cost of €190 a year, and average fuel economy that should work out around the 50mpg (5.7 litres per 100km) mark in real-world driving (BMW quotes an official figure of better than 65mpg for that model). Servicing can be a bit pricey with a BMW main dealer, but it’s a good idea from the point of view of the car’s history and its future value.
