Hi. When should I change the timing belt (for the second time) on a 2010 Ford Mondeo, 2.0 TDCI. There are 224,000 miles / 360000 kms on it. The timing belt was done previously (with previous owner) but the milage at which this was done is not known so I kinda have to guesstimate. My understanding is that it's meant to be done every 200,000 kms but it seems reasonable it would have been done earlier than that at, say, 180000 or 190000 kms. Realtedly, is there any sense in paying to do the timing belt on a car with the above mileage/year etc?
Hi Kevin,
The recommended interval for that engine is 200,000km or 10 years, whichever comes first.
If you think it is due, and you intend to keep the car and keep driving it, then you really should get the belt changed. If it fails while driving, not only is it very likely to damage the engine itself, but it could also cause a serious crash. If you don't think it's worth doing the work, financially speaking, then we'd advise you not to keep the car at all.
