Question on importing from the North...
Hi there, Recently bought a car from Northern Ireland with Uk reg, Was told it has been registered in Northern Ireland and to wait a month to avoid paying customs or vat, Don’t want to pay a mad amount on import fees so was just wondering if that’s true or not as the car is private regi

Hi David,
That sounds a little dodgy to us... For starters, once you bring the car into the south you have seven days to inform Revenue that you have done so and then 30 days to complete the importation process. You will need to have proof that the car was imported from the UK to Northern Ireland properly and used there for "a reasonable amount of time" by a private individual, or else you may be liable for VAT and import duty, along with VRT and the NOx levy of course.
