Is there any evidence that the timing chain on Nissan Qashqui 1.2 petrol engine has a recurring problem commen to that engine type. What causes the problem to occur

There is plenty of online evidence of a common issue with the Qashqai's 1.2-litre petrol engine, yes. I believe excessive oil consumption is caused by insufficient sealing of the cylinder bores leading to inadequate lubrication of the timing chain tensioner, which then can lead to the timing chain slipping or snapping completely. It's a very expensive repair, even if no further engine damage is done - which it often is.
