Private or trade sale?

Private or trade sale?

I recently asked for advice on what fuel type car to buy and I’ve decided to go ahead with your recommendation and buy an EV. I’m between an EV6 or Skoda Enyak. However my question is would I be better selling my car privately or doing a trade in? My car is 191 Skoda Kodiaq, Style with 5 seats. 45,000 km. Has few extras, upgraded 2 tone alloys, digital display, sunroof, blind spot monitor, electric boot, leather seats. I like the ease & convenience of a trade in but how much more would I get selling privately? What would you advise?

Our answer:

Hi David,

Theoretically you should get a couple of grand more selling that car privately. A dealership will always allow a margin to prepare a car for sale and make a profit on it. However, as you've identified, there's potentially more hassle involved with doing a private sale. Saying all that, with such a lack of good used cars on the market right now, I suspect you'd get a good price and quickly for your car, so no harm putting it for sale on Carzone and seeing what happens.
