Well, both will be immensely reliable, so there shouldn’t be any worries there. I’d say that the Prius might actually be the better, or at least the more interesting choice. Nothing wrong with the Auris, but it’s a bit of a plain-jane hatchback at the end of the day. Hard to fault but equally hard to love. The Prius is obviously more technically interesting and from what you’ve said about doing mostly short journeys and runabouts, then its hybrid drivetrain should be working in its sweet spot.
