New car advice. Petrol or Diesel. I had decided that I was going to purchase a petrol as everyone seems to be going that route. However when I called to local Ford Dealer he informed me that they have taken €1750 off the price of a new diesel Focus. This makes it only €500 dearer than petrol equivalent . As I drive between 17000 - 20000 Km a year I think the diesel would be the better choice. My only issue is the resale value in four years time when I trade up. What is your opinion? Thank you.
Hi Kevin,
Brand-new turbodiesels shouldn’t be affected by any changes to tax laws for some time to come in my opinion, as they're very clean. You are also comfortably at the annual mileage levels where a diesel would make so much more sense than a petrol. Given the price difference between the petrol and diesel Focus models is so negligible, you should go for the diesel.
