Hi there. I am looking to go from a 2013 DS5 to a 2011/10 Lexus RX450H. I would like to go into a bigger vehicle with a low tax bracket. I’ve gauged prices but all seem to be 250,000km or more in my budget. I will only buy with full service history but should I be concerned about this amount of mileage? I only keep my cars approx 2 years or less and do approx 25,000km a year. Could I be facing trouble by buying a high mileage suv?
Hi Brian,
Well, assuming that your DS 5 is worth about €10,000-€11,000 as is, then yes, if you’re looking at a Lexus RX 450h for the same money, you’ll be looking at a high-miler. Ordinarily, buying a high-mileage SUV can present some risks, as the premium models can have increased running and maintenance costs, but if you’re going to buy any high-mileage vehicle, a Toyota or Lexus hybrid is normally a very safe bet. They’re dependable, solidly built machines and you should still find a buyer for it, two years and another 50,000km down the line. As long as you’re happy with the provenance and history of the Lexus you’re looking at, it could be worth a swap.
