Oil leak on a Passat I'm looking at...

Hi carzone I am looking at a 2016 vw passant. 2lt tdi.the car is UK Import. I notice a oil leak on The right hand side of the engine. The dealer checked it and said it was a seal on the Oil filter cup. Is there any issues with oil leaks on the passats and what is the maintenances louding on the passant like. This car l am looking to buy has 67000 miles on the clock. Kind regards. Martin sheehan.

Our answer:

Hi Martin,

There are no widespread oil leaks in that Passat that we know of so it could just be a mistake done by a mechanic when changing the oil filter. However, we'd urge you not to accept the car until the oil leak is fixed.

In general, that Passat is quite robust, though we'd only advise you go for the 2.0 TDI diesel engine if you are going to cover high annual mileages. Otherwise you are likely to have issues with the DPF and other components that are designed for high-speed, long-distance running, not stop-start city traffic.
