Octavia or Passat?
Octavia or Passat: I'm looking at either a 2008 1.4 tsi Passat of a post 2010 1.2 tsi Octavia. Is there much of a difference in terms of reliability and repair costs and which would you recommend?

Hi Mark,
Skodas tend to have a slight edge in reliability over their Volkswagen cousins (for reasons that we can't quite fathom), but there's probably not going to be a massive difference. Of these two, I'd go for the Octavia - it's almost as spacious and practical as the Passat, and that 1.2-litre engine is terrific - smooth, powerful and damn near as economical as a diesel.
