Need to tow a double horsebox.

Hi. I need to buy something that could pull a double horsebox, not all the time, maybe once every two weeks or so. I know i'd love a qashqai but would it be able to pull a horsebox. what would you recommend

Our answer:

Hi Rosemarie,

Double horseboxes, especially ones containing a pair of sizeable horses, are hefty old things and, regrettably, the Qashqai is just not going to be up to snuff. For civilian vehicles, the maximum weight of braked trailer they can tow is normally 3,500kg – to do that, they usually need to be big and heavy themselves, powered by a torquey turbodiesel engine and with four-wheel drive. This leads you to SUVs, 4x4s and one-tonne pick-up trucks. The mighty V6 Volkswagen Amarok pick-up would haul your horsebox, no problem, as would an Audi Q7 TDI, but a rather more affordable towing vehicle is the SsangYong Rexton 4x4.
