Hi, My VW Passat 1.6 TDI shows high fuel consumption after changing the timing belt, 23/L to 18/L. So I contacted the garage and they are telling that they change only the timing belt and water pump. I worried what will be the problem then because it happened only after changing the timing belt, two weeks before changing the timing belt i did a full car service in VW garage. Could you please help me out.
Hi Sony,
As I mentioned in the previous answer, the rise in fuel consumption could be due to something done incorrectly during the timing belt change, but of course it might be unrelated.
Ask the garage if they'll check the tensioner and the timing itself. If they won't, I suggest you get another garage to do it, document and photograph the work and keep all receipts in case you need to go back to the original garage to get reimbursement.
