My mother's Corsa has a wet belt issue...

hi my mother has an opel corsa 2021 and just last week she was told the wet belt was gone on it and not to drive it as you could blow the engine, she has had it serviced at main dealer every time it neede it since she got it but this is the first time she has heard anything about wet belt or changing wet belt, when she asked main dealer she was told oh we didnt know about it either and its all new to us?is this true and is this an acceptable answer from main dealer, she is looking at a price of maybe 1400 euro to change this now and its money she dont have, are the dealers trying to pawn her off and has she reason to come back on them.

Our answer:

Hi Cornelius,

It's not clear from your message if the belt has already broken and caused damage or if the dealer has identified it may cause an issue. I know there have been some issues with the so-called wet belt in many cars.

It sounds as if the car is out of warranty, though perhaps appeal to Opel Ireland directly on this due to your mother's loyalty and presumably the car's low mileage.

If all that fails, you are not beholden to the dealer to have the work done and you can shop around for a better price of course.
